I always put these competitions on my list of things to do, but often they fall to the wayside. They cost money, I miss the deadline, they require an essay I am nervous to write, or my laziness takes over. Yesterday I got a burst of productivity and submitted to three different photography competitions. They were all free, which helped, but I still felt pretty good about my accomplishment.
The one which had the most hurdles was the 7th (?) annual Foam International Photography Talent Call. It is open for three more weeks (May 1st deadline) and was not very difficult to submit. You need to submit 2-4 projects of 8-16 images each, a statement about these projects and a short CV. Details here. It took me about an hour to get everything together and it was an hour well spent.
I submitted images from my series about Ross
and images from series of black and white portraits
